Please Help - Au Pair Being Mistreated In Ct

Card image cap

Hello, I have a friend who is an au pair who works for a family that has consistently made her feel unsafe and uncomfortable. Last night, her host family got extremely drunk and was yelling outside of her door, trying to break the door down while she was trying to sleep. She called me crying, scared and I picked her up.

This morning when she woke up, she received a message from the host mom berating her for how she acted (getting scared and leaving a place she felt uncomfortable in), and told her that her services were no longer needed and basically that they are kicking her out with no warning or plan (because they got drunk and scared her??). She has been working with this family for almost 2 years. We went to their house at the time the host mom requested to pick up her belongings and they refused to let her in to get her personal items (including all of her important documents). They were demanding her cell phone, as they pay for it (per au pair policy), but she didn't give it because she needs to have a way to communicate (also has video evidence of them trying to break into her room/yelling) and had no notice of any of this happening.

We have called her au pair agency but they have been useless and her actual agency liaison is on vacation. Does anyone have any advice or know of any laws/rights for au pairs in Connecticut? She is a wonderful person who is being outright taken advantage of and mistreated in a country where she has no one except her friends and this family she works for.
