Parents Being Sued For Damages Caused By Me

Due to a string of bad luck recently, I (32M) am currently unemployed, next to no assets and forced to live with family while I try to get back on my feet. However, some people recently came after me demanding $400,000 for property that was damaged 10 years ago.

I told them about my current situation and let them know I would pay them back when I find another job. They of course didn’t like that and instead chose to harass me for a couple of months before it was disclosed to me that they were planning to go after my parents.

My parents have not been served papers yet but I’m wondering what the best course of action would be to take, if any, at this time.

Would my parents be held liable for this?
