Neighbor Hit My Wife's Car Last Night And Won't Admit It

We live in an apartment complex with a parking lot visible from the window and last night heard a loud crash but didn't think much of it. This morning I go out to my car and go to work and I see her driver side back end was hit and the tail light was shattered. We figured given the side the damage was on that the neighbor who parks to her left was the culprit. Took a look at his front end and there was a crack and some scratches on his passenger side where it would have hit my wife's car.
About 3 hours later he rings our doorbell and my wife answers and he tells her that someone hit her car. She got kind of emotional and accused him straight up and chewed him out. Im planning on talking to them when I get off work but my question is should I get the police involved if they continue to deny it? We don't have any real proof, but the most logical conclusion given all the evidence would be that it was them.
