Need Help With Fl Faa Drone Charges

Card image cap

I was flying my DJI Avata 2 in a restricted area in Florida during an airshow. The drone was not registered with the FAA and I had not passed the UAS safety test. I was detained by an FAA agent. An investigation was initiated into an incident alleging that I operated an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) without a Remote Pilot Certificate or the Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST), inside a Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFR) area specified in the Notice to Air Missions Flight Data Center (NOTAM FDC 4/7247) during the United States Air Force Air Demonstration. I received a letter stating that an investigation had begun and they requested that I provide any evidence or statements regarding this incident within 10 days. I have since passed the safety test and registered the drone with the FAA. I sent proof of this to the inspector, who mentioned that he would note my cooperation and compliance but that the matter would be handled by others who would contact me.

What do you recommend I do in this situation? Should I contact a lawyer, or is it better to wait since no decision has been made yet? Should I send a letter or explanation about the situation from my side?
