Need Advice: My U.s. Visa Is Conditioned On My Canadian Work Permit
Hi everyone,
I’m currently in Canada and I have a U.S. nonimmigrant visa that was refused under Section 221(g) until I provide proof of a valid Canadian work permit. The consulate explained that my visa approval depends on me holding legal work status in Canada.
I applied for my Canadian work permit on June 26, 2025, but it’s still being processed. The problem is that I’m now planning to leave Canada permanently in February 2026 and move back to Colombia.
Now I’m not sure what to do — whether I should wait for the permit decision, withdraw my application, or just leave. I’m worried about how this might affect: • My current U.S. visa case (can I still get it approved if I leave Canada?) • My eligibility to apply again for a U.S. visa later from Colombia • Any possible Canadian or cross-border implications of withdrawing the work permit application
If anyone has gone through something similar or has cross-border immigration experience, I’d really appreciate your advice on what would be the smartest way to handle this.
Thanks a lot for reading.
