My Wife's Boss Continues To Mess Up Paperwork Causing Big Issues For Our Family.

My wife works for a company that is regulated by the FAA(not sure if that matters). The company is part of a partnership. The managers (my wife included) work for her boss(the owner), while the employees work for a company. The owner of the company that employs has less than the minimum employees and is not required to have an HR department.
The owner of the company she works for is always trying to save money, so he is always trying to do the HR stuff himself. Well, because of this paperwork is done incorrectly. We just had a baby 2 months ago. He incorrectly filed the FMLA paperwork, causing a lapse in the insurance during the time of the labor. I spent hours on the phone correcting that error with the insurance company. (I am still dealing with issues now for billing and the fact that we did not have insurance for that time frame)
During her maternity leave, there were a few documents we received pertaining to her leave and return from him and with mistakes. Things like his sending the paperwork with incorrect DoB and other messed up information that would cause hiccup after hiccup.
Now, my wife is back to work as of Tuesday the 28th. During the last week, she received a message from the insurance company stating that if she had not returned to work by the 31st she would lose her benefits once again. She called the insurance company and informed them that she had infact returned to work. She then went to the owner and asked that he file the paperwork for her return so that we didnt lose coverage once again. He said he would.
This morning, we woke up to an email stating that we once again do not have insurance.
Am I just overly aggravated, or is there something that can be done legally here? We are now on the hook for bills that we shouldn't be because of his incompetence and want to save money.
