My Mom Was Denied Power Of Attorney For My Severely Schizophrenic Sibling

My older sibling(24F) has been in jail for nearly 2 years due to an incident caused by her schizophrenia. Before going to trial, she was deemed “mentally incompetent” and was later sentenced to 2 years in the states psychiatric facility. Unfortunately there’s been a mental health crisis going on for quite some time, so she’ll still be in the jail until the psych facility has room for her.

My mom had applied for power of attorney multiple times, both before and after my sister had been sent to jail (my mom was denied every time). It’s made the entire situation so much more difficult and confusing with every step. Since she is an adult, we are not allowed any information or updates on her outside of what was discussed during trial. We weren’t even able to visit her until about week ago because all the names on her visitation list were either completely made up or names of celebrities.

The visitation went terribly. The jail she’s in does it through a video call essentially and when she showed up on the screen she was in her cell unclothed and completely out of touch with reality. She was very aggravated;she cussed us all (was looking back cussing and acting like she was gonna fight someone behind her who was literally not there), insisted we were not her real family, and was convinced that we were trying to trick her. We ended up just speaking to the guard who told us she had been refusing all meds and that the behavior she displayed to us was her current every day state.

It’s hard to explain the full extent of the situation, so I hope it wasn’t too hard to read. My family is just at a loss here. None of us have any clue how to navigate this situation, so any advice is greatly appreciated.
