My Ex’s Ex-wife Is Suing Me In His Bankruptcy Case Because He Gave Me A Lot Of Money When We Were Together.
I started dating this guy in 2023 after meeting him on Tinder. Everything was totally normal — trips, family dinners, even time with his kids. During our relationship, he offered to help me pay for a cosmetic procedure. I didn’t ask, beg, or pressure him. I have texts where he said he wanted to spoil me and help with my “endeavors.”
He had already been divorced for a year when I met him. I even met his ex-wife and her boyfriend when we picked up the kids sometimes.
Fast forward: 2 years after we broke up, he’s now in Chapter 13 bankruptcy… and his ex-wife just filed an adversary complaint against me, claiming he “fraudulently transferred” about $36,000 to me to hide money from her and his creditors.
The court paperwork says I have 35 days from being served to file an Answer or Motion, and there’s a pretrial hearing in December. I’ve got tons of proof — texts, screenshots, receipts, and photos showing we had a legit relationship.
Has anyone been through something like this? What happens if I prove it was a genuine gift? I’m calling lawyers tomorrow, but I’d love to hear if anyone’s dealt with something similar or has insight into what to expect.
