My Brother And His Girlfriend Wants Custody Of Their Daughter Back
I (M25) was never really close with him and Didn't really started talking to him until he had my niece About three years ago, my brother and his girlfriend were arrested, leaving their daughter, my niece (then 2 years old), without anyone to care for her. With no other family stepping up, she was going to be placed in foster care. Not wanting her to go through that, I decided to take her in.
Since then, I've become her legal guardian and have adopted her. We've formed a strong bond, and she calls me Dad. I love her like my own daughter, and she loves me too.
Recently, my brother and his girlfriend have been released from prison and are demanding custody of their daughter. However, they haven't shown any signs of stability or willingness to provide a safe and loving environment for her. They're still involved in drugs and have a chaotic lifestyle.
I don't want to give up custody because I'm worried about her well-being, and I can't imagine her being taken away from me. But now my family is pressuring me, saying that I should give her back to her biological parents.
