Landlord Has Been Illegally Renting To Me And I Just Found Out. [mn Us]
My landlord has been renting the first floor of a duplex to me and my wife for about 4 years now. We have largely had no issue, but the unit above us has been having issue with the roof leaking into their unit. The landlord has so far not fixed it and they decided to reach out to the city for assistance.
While talking to the city they learned that our landlord does not a Fire certificate, an occupancy certificate, or a renter's license.
I do not want to move out or anything, but I am worried what our rights are should our landlord have issues with getting these things.
What rights/ protections do my wife and I have in this situation? We do not really have the means to move and find another place right.
