Laid Off This Morning. Can I Collect My Vacation $ (california)?

Hello,

As the title states, I’ve been laid off from my company as of this morning. They’re offering me 4 weeks severance pay. However, in order to collect this severance, they want me to sign a release that frees them of any recourse concerning unpaid vacation and bonuses.

After some cursory searching through California’s labor laws (I live in California working remote, company is based in QC Canada), it appears they have to pay me for my unused vacation, as well as my bonus.

Am I in a position where I need to forfeit those in order to collect the severance?
