Is Tennant Responsible For Ceiling Leak Damage??

I have lived in my rented apt for 6 years. A rain leak sprung out of my kitchen ceiling about 4 years ago. My roommate at the time let the landlord know about it twice, and he blew it off (it's not normal for him but he seemed to he dealing with a lot at the time).
My roommate moved out about a year afterward and I have lived here on my own. I have had mental health issues and anxiety that left me feeling paralyzed on whether to bring it up again, so I have not. He has not been in the apartment in the entire time she has been moved out, was doing inspections yearly the first few years and just stopped for some reason.
The damage is worse as it grew over time. By now part of the ceiling is bowing down like it might fall eventually, and my ocd has made me feel like the house will never be clean enough to invite him in.
I need to move soon. What will happen when he finds out? Should I be honest? I don't speak with the old roommate and have no proof of the texts about it years ago. I'm terrified I will somehow be responsible for the whole repair, and by now there might be mold.
I will take whatever responsibilities I need to because of course he will see it eventually, but what is right here? Help
