Is It Illegal For Planet Fitness To Change My Reason For Canceling On My Cancelation Agreement Before I Sign Or Just A Crappy Thing To Do?

A gym member was harassing me and making me feel uncomfortable so I quit my membership. The manager said they couldn't do anything about it since it's my word against theirs so I canceled. I said my reason for quitting was 'safety concerns'. While I was talking with the manager right before I signed, the assistant manager must've changed it to 'other fitness options' because that's what I read when I received an email copy of my agreement a week later. I understand I'm supposed to read contracts before signing and I messed up, I just wanted to know if what they did was illegal or just unethical?
