Indiana Divorce

Card image cap

My daughter is about to file for divorce from her emotionally abusive (difficult to prove) husband.

They had lived in a house he bought before the marriage. She put in $10,000 for improvements to flip the house. Then they were "given" a house from his grandma, they just had to pay the taxes. She paid the taxes because he hasn't had a job for two years, but then she'd had enough and never ended up living in the house.

The first house has sold and when she found out, she diverted $8000 to a bank account she opened (all their other bank accounts have his mother on them.) He's demanding that she give the money back.

Her "freebie" lawyer consult told her to not give it back, but to absolutely not take anything further. No money, property, don't buy any pricey items and only pay the minimum on bills she has.

Does this sound accurate? Is there anything else she should be aware of regarding divorce in Indiana?
