I Was Wrongly Arrested And I’m Not Sure What’s Next

Over the weekend, I was involved in an altercation that resulted in the police being called. after being questioned, the officer arrested me because she said I had a felony warrant out from 2020. by saying I am in nursing school, I have been getting background checks and fingerprinted regularly since 2021. I have never had a speeding or parking ticket. I don’t get any type of trouble whatsoever and being in nursing school we had to have records so when she said, I had a warrant and I was going to jail that alarmed me. I was taken to jail and they confirmed several times that I had a felony warrant out saying that I rented some merchandise and I never returned it. That is impossible because in August 2020 I was at college in another city . I told them that but they kept saying the warrant was valid and it was me. so today I went to the place that filed the police report against me and when I went there, they told me I was not in their system. They ran my name, my social and my address and nothing came up in their system. I called the police department telling them there was no way that warrant could’ve been issued for me from the rental place because the rental place doesn’t even have my information in their system. They stated they couldn’t give me a copy of the police report and that I would have to wait until my court date, but why do I have to go to court if the warrant should have never been issued to me? after going back-and-forth with the rental place and the police department, they said they made a mistake and they would give me a call. but I need this off of my record and I was arrested for something that didn’t have anything to do with me. The person on the paper had the same last name as me, and I first name starts with a J, but her name was longer than mine, and the rental associate said that our socials did not look like each other. Neither did our addresses. So what can I do to get this figured out without going to court and who can I sue because this was wrong on so many different levels. once again, I will say I am in nursing school and I am supposed to graduate in December. I could’ve gotten kicked out of school for this and lost my current job. i’m also a single mother.
