I Have A Laptop From A Job I Worked 13 Years Ago. They Never Asked For It Back. What Do I Do With It?

When I was in college (South Dakota), I got a job working for a Californian non-profit in which I was tutoring kids. The whole thing was a mess, I was never onboarded, the parents and their children I tutored had no idea what was going on, I was never paid, and I quit a month in.
The non-profit sent me a laptop when I began working, but I never even turned it on. When I quit, they told me they would email me with a paid postage receipt to return the laptop. I was never given the postage I was supposed to receive to send it back (and I didn't want to spend my own money to send it back). After the call I made to tell them I was quitting, I never received a call, email, or any other form of communication from this non-profit.
Anyway, the laptop has been sitting in my closet for 13 years and I don't know what I can legally do with it. From what I can tell, the non-profit no longer exists and I can't find a trace of it ever existing no matter how much googling I do, so I don't believe I can return it to anyone. Am I allowed to use it for personal use? Can I sell it? Should I throw it away? Should I reach out to a professional legal entity for advice?
