Hotel Staff Stole My Car Keys And Stole Sprinter Van

Card image cap

I was staying at a hotel close to Disneyland so we can walk there for the few days that we were there. On our last night there, we came back to the hotel to change our cloths and get ready for the fireworks. I went to get the van to get some batteries and it was gone from the spot. Long story short it wasn't towed and I discovered our spare keys were taken from the room. The manager said they cleaned the room that day and everything was as we left it. Nothing was cleaned. Only the keys were gone and the van.

I asked the manager to scan the room to see who went in and to look at the cameras. They were vague and said the cameras may or may not be working. After we left, they never answered any my emails or calls.

My question is should I hire a lawyer to prosecute them or got to small claims court and go through my insurance for the van? Also, is it likely that I can win my case if I go for litigation. They are managed in Ohio even though the hotel is in california.

I have video footage of the room not being clean and a picture of the hotel staff scanning the room lock. I also filed a police report and notified my insurance. I'm not sure if this is enough to prosecut since I don't have access to their security cameras footage to prove that their staff was responsible. And they are not answering any emails or calls.
