Got A New Job Then Day 2 The Boss Decided To Say I'm A Contractor Instead?

Heya! Austin, Texas here. So my partner has been working at a relatively small (like 10 employees in office) business for over 2 years now. They had a spot open up to work in the warehouse so I jumped on it as it seemed like a great position. We go through all the talks with the guy hiring me I get all of the information and I'm like yes I'd love to work here. So I start on Monday and it goes fine, the boss was out of town so I didn't have to talk to him nor did he do any of my onboarding paperwork (he's a grade A jerk) Anywho, the next day he apparently decided that he wanted someone with more experience (this is literally not a job that needs experience like I was fully independent less than a week in) and decided to treat me as a contractor. I'd like to note that I'm now on my third week and he hasn't said a single word to me, I haven't signed any papers I'm not in their system nothing. I have an excel sheet to clock in and out with and that's it. The strange thing is the boss said he had put an ad on [job website] but he didn't?? so now I'm just kind of in Limbo wondering if this is even legal? Am I just getting stepped on or what.... Please help! Thank you!!

EDIT: realized I forgot to mention that I already know 90% of the employees, most of us hang out socially. I've eaten dinner with the boss a few times as well. The guy hiring me got direct permission to hire specifically me, the boss knew it was me, he knew I was getting hired for over a week before I even started. Just feeling unsteady and unsafe I guess. I really like my job so if I can I'd like to try to keep it. The warehouse crew is also fighting to fix this but there's only so much they can do.
