Free Bike Left On Curb And I Made Repairs. Worried About Owner Asking For It Back.

Location: Portland, OR
There’s a corner outside my apartment complex where people leave free stuff all the time. Sometimes there a sign, sometimes not, but it’s fairly clear that anything out there is up for grabs.
One day, a couple of things got put out. I took a bicycle that costs under $200 new (I looked it up). Again, the bike was with a bunch of stuff that did have a sign that said “FREE”. I didn’t just take this bike from someone’s yard. The bike needed a new wheel because one was bent, and new pedals. I purchased these items and put it together, and the bike works fine now. I also tuned it up and cleaned it up a bit.
I’m nervous to take it out of my apartment in case the previous owner sees me with it and demands it back. Am I pretty much in the clear to tell them to kick rocks? Like, finders keepers, right? Plus I did all this work on it to get it to work.
This post is pretty much just to calm my nerves about it, so any input is greatly appreciated.
