Ex Wife Will Not Negotiate Custody Arrangement To Allow For Me To Have A Better Job And Wants Me To Pay Her.
I have been extended a job offer that will substantially increase my income, and I can work remotely for a lot of it. However, I will also need to travel to the home office and for client meetings on a regular basis. I currently share a 50-50 split with my ex, and have the kids one week on, one week off. I simply have asked to modify this to two weeks at a time each. She has refused stating two weeks is simply too much time without the kids (but she knows she could see them whenever she wants during my weeks). She refused to pay child support in the past when I requested it, stating I was purposefully under-employed, which I was not, I simply could not find work in my field that allowed me to see my kids at all. Currently, the decree states she owes me “credit”, meaning instead of paying me, I receive credit for each month that she didn’t pay in case I ever got a job paying more than her. Now that I can make more, she wants me to pay her outright and it seems she is intentionally holding me back.
My question is: am I stuck bending to her will or do I have the ability to make decisions? For reference I am a geoscientist. She is a school teacher. I feel like she is holding my life hostage because she can.
