Ending Lease Early, Roommate Issues

Card image cap

Hi guys,

I’m looking to get some advice on the unfortunate situation I’m currently in. I have been living with someone since November 2021 in our current lease and at the end of October this year. I planned on moving out a couple of months early, yet continuing to pay rent in order to move in with my new boyfriend, so that was easier for us instead of the back-and-forth to each other’s houses. unfortunately, my roommate is upset with me for leaving early and says it is ruining our friendship. Her fiancé has been living with us since the beginning of October 2023 and has not paid any amount of rent as of two months ago. Our total rent costs 1900, therefore we have both been paying approximately $950 per month. As of the past two months, her fiancé has agreed to pay $150 towards me, equivalent to me paying $800 a month. I sat down with my roommate and asked her if she was OK with me moving out early in July (our lease ends 10/31/24) and possibly paying only half of the rent as to not leave her hanging, and allow for her and her fiancé to live there on their own and he only has to pay, 400 a month. Unfortunately, she is upset that I have started moving out now, which is early to her and is threatening to not pay this amount now. What options do I have? I need to move out and get out of this toxic environment, and I want to find a way to see if I am able to sublease or let the landlord know that he has been living there and is not on the lease, not background checked and has not paying rent until very recently. What are my options? Ultimately, I just want to get off of the lease, even if that means that I need to pay in full and give a check for the remaining of my rent.
