Employer Is Asking For Doctor’s Note Regarding Physical Limitations - I’m 100% Disabled Vetera

Hello,
I’m based out of California and I work with the county. My job title is “Training Officer” but it’s not a sworn position like a Sheriff’s Deputy or Police Officer. It’s an administrative position in which I develop curriculum and occasionally instruct on various topics. Recently I got into with my employer (Corrections) about sending me to a specific training that would require physical training and conditioning. As a Disabled Veteran (100% rated) I respectfully brought up my health concerns and thought that was the end of it. Besides, the only physical demand of my job was to “maintain stamina to lecture for long periods of time,” so naturally this seemed an odd thing to ask of me.
Moving forward, my employer is now asking I provide a doctor’s note with my physical restrictions, as well as the duration of my restrictions. Initially, i provided them a letter from the VA stating I have service connected disabilities, but that was all it said. Now they’re saying that’s not enough…
I have several issues with this because 1) my job description does not require me to do physical conditioning 2) they didn’t give me a actual reason as to why they needed the restrictions — I assume it was because I declined that training.
How should I respond moving forward?
