Dad Threatened To Sue Me Over Parent Plus Loan Debt

This will be a long post, but I need serious legal advice. I graduated college 6 years ago. Ever since repayment began after graduating, I have been paying my student loans. Aside from Covid forbearances, my account is in good standing. My parents gave me this letter 2 weeks ago stating that my loans were due for repayment in the beginning of June, which puzzled me, because they are currently not “officially due” until next January. Come to find out the letter is for a Parent Plus Loan my father took out under his name. I do not have the finances to cover this payment on top of my husband and I’s current loan payments. I had a “conversation” with my dad telling him unfortunately I could not help them out with the payments. He told me that it was my responsibility, that I had agreed to pay them back. I had agreed to pay back and have been paying back MY loans. I never even knew these existed bc they are in a completely separate account that I don’t have access to because they are in his name and his account. No payments have been made on his account in the 6-8 years since they have been dispersed and have now incurred over $12,000 in interest. In fact, when I called to inquire about this loan the loan servicer would only give me minimal information about the loan because I’m not the borrower. I told him he could call and work on an income repayment plan and that they would surely make something doable. I offered to maybe sometime in the future help with payments once our financial situation stabilized and he basically laughed in my face. He stating that I will force him into bankruptcy and force him to work until he dies. He also has threatened legal action against me. Am I in the wrong? Am I responsible for repayments? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
