Covid And My Employer

Card image cap

I will try to keep this as simple as possible as possible and highlight the situation...

Worked for major hospital (over 15 years) during COVID in ER. Had an exposure from patient in 2020, became covid positive shortly after, then developed long covid early 2021, health declined so much I was unable to work by summer of 21.

Filed work comp, it was denied; now I receive LTD from employer. My employer is also my insurance provider, employs the doctors who treat me, and the administer for WC/LTD (self insured).

I am now 3 years into this and broke; LTD pays pennies compared to my old wage. I cannot afford to pay the medical bills I've racked up treating my long covid and jumping through hoops to stay on LTD. Without 'treatment' I will lose LTD, but my employer (major hospital) is refusing me treatment due to unpaid bills.

What the heck do I do!? I filed a work comp case and hired a lawyer and the threats to end my LTD started coming in. Still cannot get medical treatment due to unpaid bills..... it all seems very wrong and very illegal and unethical but no one seems to want to get involved because of who my employer is ????

Any advice is appreciated.
