Company Is Accusing Me Of File Theft Prior To Getting Laid Off. How To Prepare For Meeting With Hr?

Card image cap

Earlier this month I was laid off and today got a meeting invite from employee relations titled "File Review" for next week. My previous manager, employee relations, digital forensics investigator, and insider risk people are invited to the meeting. They saw some file transfers were made before I was let go and that they would like to review them, so they say. This is a large corporate company in the US.

Should I meet with an attorney before this meeting? If any files were taken, it would have been unimportant files with minimal value. Any chance they just ask me to delete files and move on since nothing of value was taken? If I had any files, should I delete them now? Why would they invite a digital forensics investigator and insider risk people unless they had real things to show?

Which type of attorney would be best to consult here? Is it possible to get a quick consultation before a meeting at the end of next week?
