Child Removed From Health Insurance While Out On Leave

In December 2023, I had my child. I put them on my job’s health insurance coverage. I was on parental leave until 3/19/2024. I was notified twice in Feb 2024 via my work email to upload my kid’s verification docs by 3/5/2024 (birth certificate that I had already uploaded to HR so they could approve my leave). I also got a message on 3/5/2024 saying my kid was no longer covered. All of these messages were sent to my work email, that I did not have access to while I was on leave.
I found out about this the other day when I went to take my kid to the doctor. I contacted my HR benefits dept, who told me I was basically SOL until open enrollment, as the date to send in verification documents had already passed (which again happened while I was on leave and had zero access to my work email). I was never notified by my personal email, mail, or phone about any of this. Is there anything I can do? Should do?
