Can I Sue This Flight School That Did Not Honor Their Promise?

I am in school to become a pilot, I signed up for an accelerated private pilot course in Alaska last year. The program is advertised as a 2 week guaranteed course with 3 flights a day, I paid over $10K upfront. I had originally planned to come for 2 weeks in august, they called me 2 weeks before that and told me that they needed to reschedule my dates because the planes were in maintenance. The dates offered didn’t work for me, the earliest I could come was the end of October 2023.

I was concerned about the winter weather and lack of daylight during that period so I planned to stay for one month to make sure I would get all of the hours, which they assured me I would. Unfortunately there was extreme weather most of the time and I was not able to fly, I only got 3 hours of flight in a month, on the days of good weather they said there were no instructors available.

After being stuck in Alaska for a month with practically no flight time they said they could not refund me, but I could return in the spring and finish the hours. I agreed to return in the spring of this year for 16 days, and I booked my airbnb and flight. 2 days before arriving they called me asking if I could reschedule again. I said I could not as I could not get a refund on the airbnb, car rental, or flights. The head instructor said that they needed to reschedule because the test provider was going to be unavailable. After I expressed my concern, he told me if I was not able to get the 40 hours or do the final test that they would give me a partial refund for hours not completed.

I arrived on schedule on may 16th, the following day I was assigned to a flight instructor, we flew for 1.5 hours. We were supposed to fly 3 times a day, on the second flight of the day they canceled for maintenance and assured me the plane would be ready to fly the next day at 10am. That next morning they said the plane was still not ready and I couldn’t fly that day, this continued to happen day after day. I had to call in every morning and basically convince them to let me fly and they had many excuses. After 14 days I was only able to get 19 hours, I was meant to do my first solo flight at the end of the trip but another student crashed a plane and they canceled that too.

Halfway through this trip I expressed my concerns about not being able to get the 40 hours, they assured me once again, the hours that did not get completed would be refunded. They are now telling me that they will not refund me, they don’t have the money, they think they owe me nothing and they told me to get a lawyer if I want my money back. They have become extremely hostile and after researching the company this has happened to many other students. They also insulted me and asked if I “thought the owner was a rich man” and that they had no money to give me, they even said I’m not cut out to be a pilot anyway which hurt quite a bit.

Is this a case worth pursuing with a lawyer? I did sign a contract and ill have to look over it, but I’m sure it says no refunds somewhere in there, even though the advertise this as a guaranteed program.

TLDR;

Paid a flight school in Alaska over $10k upfront. The company turned out to be horrible, and extremely unprofessional. They have made nothing but excuses throughout the whole course and I have not even gotten to fly half of the 40 hours that they guaranteed I would complete. They told me many times I would get a refund for the hours not completed, they are now telling me to get a lawyer and that the will not refund me.
