Bought A Car 5 Months Ago But Dealer Hasn’t Filed Title Paperwork For Ownership

I bought a car outright from one of those LLC dealers. The ones that have licensing, but don’t have a sales lot. I paid for the car, he gave me a temp registration, printed out a temp license plate, but it’s been almost five months and no plates. I went to the DMV and turns out, paperwork to update the title was never filed and I don’t have any paperwork. No bill of sale, no photos, nothing to show. Maybe we got a folder full of papers and it was lost or maybe we never got anything. The only thing I have is a carfax folder with a carfax report.

Car is not reported stolen, vin matches all around the vehicle, matches the carfax report, but that’s really all I have.

I reached out to a lawyer who gave the high level, you can sue, report them, small claims court, etc. Aside from that, what actually happens?

If I can’t register it. If I cant get plates. If I don’t have a title. What happens if I get pulled over? If we sue or report the dealer, what happens with the car? We give it back? It sits around? Is there a chance to get money back? Like what actually happens?
