Auto Shop Got Into An Accident With My Car And Now It Might Be Totaled

I took my car, a ‘03 diesel VW Jetta, to the auto shop to have the brakes checked out after a dash light came on. They inspected it, and told me I needed new pads and rotors. I approved the estimate for the work to be completed. They said they performed the approved jobs. They then took it out for a test drive…and got into an accident causing significant damage, and now the car is most likely totaled. Even if it’s not totaled, they are saying it will require about $500 to replace a master cylinder. I find the whole situation absurd and ridiculous; that I took my car to care for it, and now it’s perhaps totaled and not drivable. Do I have any recourse?
