Auto Mechanic Not Doing The Work They Were Hired For; What Can We Do About It?

Card image cap

Last weekend, my roommate's car died. We were able to find a mobile mechanic that said they would be able to help fix it Monday afternoon. They came by, we paid $750 (it had to be with the cash app, which struck me as odd) for parts and labor that they said would replace a broken starter. They were out at the car for a few hours, they left to go get the part. Came back, said it was the wrong part. They left without telling us, just leaving the car keys in the ignition. We called the mechanic and they said they were getting the correct starter and they'd be back today around 11:30. Well, 11:30 came and went and no mechanic and no auto repairs were done. We called them, AGAIN, and they said they were still having trouble finding the part they needed and were going to be here by 6:30 tonight. Well, it's 6:10 as of now, they STILL aren't here and I'm starting to worry that they're going to just keep dragging us along. I have a bad feeling that we're going to have to call them around 7:00 or so and they're going to tell us, AGAIN, that something is holding them back.

My roommate wants to just hire a tow truck and get some other mechanic to fix it for us and as much as I can see why he would rather do that than keep waiting on the mobile mechanic, we paid they $750 and if we're going to get someone else to fix it for us, I want to make sure we're going to be able to get our money back.

BTW: we're in America, Oklahoma to be even more specific.
