Asbestos In My Ceiling And Exposed Pipe? Where Do I Go From Here?

Location: Illinois.

I recently moved into an older building (built in the late 60s) and the ceiling had to be torn out to get to an old clogged pipe.

So they tore it out (using no kind of vacuum or anything for the debris mind you) but what do I know they are the professionals right? The job itself is going to take about 7 days they told us. So they tore the ceiling out and just left it? Like all the debris are just on the ground with only a thin plastic curtain to keep it contained.

About an hour after they had gone my family and I began to feel extremely sick, with me getting the worst of it, also my cat began to vomit maybe it is unrelated but I thought to throw that in there as she doesn't vomit often.

I am not sure if whatever it was that made us sick was asbestos as the pipe itself was not covered properly either and gases began to come in.

But I am almost certain that these contractors did NOT do a check for asbestos.

What is my next move and what are my options legally?

I am staying at a hotel at the moment as I was coughing uncontrollably and my head was killing me (I don't know if that was from me coughing so hard or something else) and I am considering going to the ER tomorrow if I am not feeling any better.

I am definitely going to push to get to the bottom of this whole thing (whether or not they tested) do we need to leave, like just to be safe?

Any help is appreciated.

Edit: I am aware that the way I wrote this post made it sound like I thought the asbestos caused these symptoms when that is not the case. I actually believe that it was the gases coming from the exposed pipe or the other dust particles that caused it. I only mentioned the illness as I think it is an important piece of backstory to explain why I believe that there may be asbestos (an even bigger risk) in the ceiling and that a proper inspection was not done.
