Apartment Complex Illegally Towed My Vehicle

Located in Florida, my gf and I have been living at this apartment for 11 months now and renewed our lease in march. We have never been late or missed a payment and have not gotten on managements bad side to our knowledge.
My girlfriend’s car and my car were towed from our apartment complex earlier today. The office said they reached out several times telling us we need a parking permit via email and a letter on the door. Neither of us received any emails about a parking permit nor do either of us have any recollection of a letter at our door. No phone calls or voicemails either. In the past they have put pieces of paper in the door jamb for the residents but not of anything important.
Our lease says nothing about a parking permit, theres no signs in front of the parking spaces, nothing in our mailbox or online in the resident portal. There is 1 new small sign at the entrance saying a permit is required to park or you can be towed.
Can they legally tow our vehicles despite the lease saying nothing about the parking permit? They have no proof they emailed us or gave us the letter. What are our options?
