401k Match Denied Due To 3 Year Cliff

I intended to stay at my company in Arizona for 3 years to keep the 401k match but got laid off at 2.5 years. Since I was laid off and not fired, is there any way to get them to give me the 401k match?

If a company keeps an employee beyond 1 year, I'm really surprised it's legal to deny them the match unless they were fired for cause or maybe if the employee leaves by their own decision. If you keep someone employed after 1 year, then you know enough about them and have decided they're providing you valuable work.
