Thanks to the sage advice of people in this sub, my son didn't call the GAL again. A few days before the hearing, the GAL showed up unannounced at his home, while he was coming back from picking up the children from school. He spoke with the 3 of them separately.

Today was the hearing, and he got sole physical and legal custody Yayyy!
