[oh] My Sister Was A Csa Victim From A Church Choir Director. Adult Now, Finally Reported The Abuse, Grand Jury Indicted The Abuser, But Now Why Is The Prosecutor Telling Us He Has No Evidence Just Weeks Before The Trial?

I’m so confused as to what is going on right now, wondering if the prosecutor can be trusted, is he acting in bad faith, if we really just need to hire our own attorney, and if the trial can be delayed.

First, I don’t understand how the abuser could be indicted without any evidence.

Second, this particular choir director (Catholic church) abused my sister from ages 12-20. He was constantly spending time alone with her, coddling her, etc. People in the church were complaining about it. He also got a job as the choir director at her high school (private catholic high school), and even the principal at the time was expressing concern about how much time they spent together.

Now the prosecutor is saying he’s “contacted everyone that was around at the time and no one noticed anything was off” and that “it’s essentially just her word against his”. He didn’t even contact ANYONE in our family!! None of us have been contacted! How could he have done a thorough investigation? We have pictures of him at our house, on her birthday, at her 8th grade graduation, high school graduation, jackets that could maybe be DNA tested, etc. We could have given information on who was around, where to look for more evidence.

Anyways - I’m wondering if this is all strange. My sister asked me to call the prosecutor and tell him what I witnessed, but I’m worried he’s been paid off or something, and that things I say or pictures I send could somehow be manipulated against her case. I also have pictures of him at our house on his birthday and my brothers’ birthdays, so I’m worried those could be spun as “just a family friend”.

If someone could give some clarity here that would be very helpful. I need to know if this is unusual, if the prosecutor is actually going to work on helping my sister, and if he’s potentially acting in bad faith. Should I hire another attorney, is that even possible 2 weeks before the trial? I’m sure that will be extremely costly but I’ll drain my savings if that’s what really needs to be done here.

Sorry about the long post. But any information would be helpful here because this is very shocking and confusing to all of us.
