(ca) Preschool Music Teacher--employee Or Independent Contractor?

Hi,
I'm a preschool music teacher in California. I teach enrichment classes and work at 8 different preschools for between 30 minutes and 2 hours. One of my schools classifies me as an employee and issues a w2, while all the others are 1099 work.
The work I do at the w2 school is the exact same as at all the other schools. I'm mostly allowed to design my classes as I see fit, though sometimes I'm asked to play or not to play certain songs, or to slightly alter the structure of my classes.
Can anyone help shed light on whether I should be considered an employee or not at all these schools?
