[ca] Could I Face Legal Consequences For Using A Spare Key To Avoid Paying For Landlord's Coin-operated Laundry Machines?

I'm renting a SFH in a small coastal town in northern California. There are no other units or tenants on the property - just my family in this house. My landlord graciously (/s) provided a coin operated laundry and dryer machine that costs $1.50 per cycle. It's a popular older model laundry machine that takes quarters, and I was easily able to find a spare key online that allows me to open up the control panel on the machines and use them for free. As you might expect, I haven't paid for laundry in over two years that I've lived here.
Our lease specifies that the laundry machines are considered the landlord's "personal property", but that they are not under warranty, and the landlord will not repair or replace them in the event of an issue.
In this context, is using a key to access the machine's internal components technically illegal? I am not damaging the machines, and from what I understand, the landlord has abdicated all maintenance/upkeep responsibility regarding the laundry machines.
If it is illegal, and the landlord attempts to accuse me of theft if/when she finds out, how could it be proven?
