The Story

James (Jim) Arthur Vande Velde passed away in his home on May 26, 2016. Jim was born to Arthur and Seraphia Vande Velde January 9, 1962 in Slayton, Minnesota. Jim served three years in the United States Army as a Military Police officer. He received an Army Service Ribbon, Sharpshooter Badge for Rifle (M16), Expert Badge for hand grenade, Expert Badge for pistol (45 cal), and a Good Conduct medal. Upon returning from Germany, Jim moved to the Twin Cities where he worked for the Hennepin County Sheriffs Office as a Detention Deputy. Jim left the force and joined the Local 292 IBEW journeyman program where he was trained and certified as a Journeyman Electrician. In his free time, Jim enjoyed playing cribbage and talking to his kids. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Seraphia Vande Velde, and sister, Gail Harmon. He is survived by his daughter, Kassy (Jacob) Jackson, his sons, Kenny and Karl Vande Velde, all of Florida. Two brothers William (Carol) Vande Velde, Mark (Janene) Vande Velde, and a sister Barbara (Ken) Gray, all of Minnesota, as well as one granddaughter, Tinsley Jackson, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Internment will be at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Tuesday, May 31 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated.
