Patriots' 1st-round Rookie Lt Will Campbell Carted Off With Towel Over His Face After Apparent Leg Injury Vs. Bengals

New England Patriots left tackle Will Campbell was upset Sunday after sustaining what appeared to be a significant leg injury against the Cincinnati Bengals.

If the injury is serious, the Patriots will lose the blind-side protector for MVP candidate quarterback Drake Maye.

The injury took place in the second half on a run play. Campbell went down after contact while blocking on a pitch to TreVeyon Henderson.

The nature of the injury wasn't immediately clear. But it didn't look good.

Campbell ended up leaving the field on the back of a cart, unable to walk to the locker room. He did so with a towel over his face.

The Patriots selected Campbell with the No. 4 pick in April's NFL Draft as the blindside protector for Maye, whom the Patriots selected in the first round of the 2024 draft. So far, the selection has worked out great.

The Patriots were off to an NFL-best 9-2 start before Sunday's game. And Maye had developed into a frontrunner for MVP in his second season in the NFL.

While Maye didn't do a ton to advance his MVP case Sunday, he did lead the Patriots to yet another win. Despite losing Campbell, the Patriots were able to hold off the Bengals 26-20. Maye threw for 294 yards in the win, with a touchdown and an interception.

If the injury costs Campbell significant time, the Patriots will have to readjust for the stretch run of the season and a projected playoff appearance without one of their most important players.
