Wedding Venue Cancelled

Card image cap

Well, as the title explains, we unfortunately have to replan our whole wedding that was scheduled for October 2024. On top of our venue cancelling and not returning our money, we have lost all deposits to our other vendors such as photographer, dj, etc.

We had found a mansion in Kentucky under an LLC, that rents out the building as a vacation stay. We had planned to have our family and friends join us and stay at the mansion for a wedding weekend. There have been many weddings at this location, and we were very happy with our venue selection. We paid a total of $5,400 for the mansion from October 17th-21st, as they were very clear about being able to get a refund as long as we requested one 60 days before our stay.

We read a news article stating that someone had passed away at the mansion due to carbon monoxide. We reached out to the venue about our concerns, and they pushed us to cancel as they could not speak about the situation.

Unhappy with this response, we finally were told that the house had been inspected, and that there is no heat source that would produce carbon monoxide besides the pool house furnace.

Now April, another couple who planned to have their wedding their reached out and informed us to cancel and get our money back as soon as possible, as the LLC cancelled their reservation/wedding for June due to bankruptcy. We waited a week to receive any emails or communications from the company about the situation. Having received nothing, we requested to cancel and asked for our original payment back.

We then received an email from chapter 11 bankruptcy stating that our cancellation may make us a creditor of the bankruptcy estate, and that we can join a waitlist for a repayment plan, or reach out to our bank. We reached out to our bank, only to be denied the dispute as it has been over 60 days.

We are at a loss both emotionally and financially, and need advice on how to get our money back. Anything is appreciated!
