Short Term Disability Benefits

Card image cap

Located in Illinois

I took a fall while not at work and tore a ligament in my dominant hand wrist. I was placed in a cast that completely immobilized my right arm. All fun and games, but I'm a nurse and need use of my hands for my job.

I was placed on short term disability by my work (which is a offered benefit at 60% pay). After 1 month my brace was removed and I was allowed to return to work with restrictions for 1 month. My job has not been able to meet those restrictions fully, only giving me ~20 hrs a week instead of 40. And so I am still on short term disability.

The issue is, I still have not been paid. It has been 7 weeks now. When communicating with my work be it manager or HR they can't tell me when I'll be paid. When working with my leave company I hit a brick wall with no one returning calls.

What are my options? Am I able to file a complaint through the labor board? Do I need to consult a lawyer? I have decimated my savings supplementing for my family and home. Even though I'm still having pain I am about to ask my doctor to lift the restrictions so I can start earning money.
