Postal Worker Gave My Address To One Of My Patients, Who Proceeded To Show Up At My Home At 8 Pm Tonight

Location: Oregon

im an Immunologist by trade, and have many elderly patients that I see on a regular basis. one patent, "K" has tried to violate my boundaries mutiple times over the last year. being a lonely unmarried 86 year old with no family, she has asked mutiple times to "spend time together" outside of the professional setting.

because of these requests, I recently moved her over to a female colleague of mine in the neighboring clinic complex. she began calling my office 4-6 times a day, so we ended up blocking her number.

tonight, 3 days after her last contact, my wife called me as I was traveling and told me there was a strange vehicle in our driveway and no one was in the car. Asked her to her to hit the security alarm and hunker down somewhere safe.

police show up, and find K in our backyard, trying to look into the windows. she tells police officers she is my grandmother and is worried im in danger since she hadn't heard from me in days. police speak to my wife who calls me, I explain shes a patient, no relation, and shes trespassing.

she tells police she went to our town's post office and told the employee that she was my grandmother and I had just moved, and she needed my address. they apparently gave it to her after she told them my name, and she proceeded to start sending me letters. she told police she sent me 4 letters over 3 days, but decided to show up to make sure I read her letters.

like most doctors, I use privacy services to keep my name, phone number, address, personal details off the internet. there is 0 way for my patients to find my personal information without some crazy digging. I have no identifiable social media presence, and shes almost 90, she doesnt know how to work a computer.

my question is, is the post office liable for this situation? do I go through a lawyer or should I schedule a meeting with the Post Master for my town? police didnt really have much advice outside of a restraining order, and ive got a strong suspicion that isnt going to stop this behavior.

its saturday so my work legal team is out of the office. I could use the emergency line but that is more for malpractice issues and not stalkers, and id rather hit the ground running on Monday, as im now going to have to take a day or two off work to get this all sorted out.
