Neighbor Cut My Tree Down And It Fell On Their House. Please Advise

Card image cap

Ok so My wife and her sister own a house together. They do not live at the house. They allow their father to stay at the house rent free. Their dad hired his neighbor to cut down a tree that was on the property. (My wife and her sister did not give permission to do this.) He is not a contract tree cutter and he does not have insurance. When the tree fell over it fell on the nieghbors house which he is renting, and done damage to his dwelling. We do have video of him cutting the tree and it falling on to the house. What is our legal recourse for this? Are we responsible for the damages? We are in IL. Thank you for your time.
