My Partner And I Have Been Unpaid Caregivers To His Mother Who Is Now Trying To Reneg On Our Arrangement

I had a really hard time trying to word the title for this post and I really wasn’t sure which flair to use so I apologize for any confusion. Location: South Carolina

Me and my partner have been in-home care givers to his mom (65f). Him for over 5 years, and since 2021 for myself. The arrangement was that we’d give her in home care while also sending her a token rent amount that covers monthly electric, etc. since we live here with her. In return, we would inherit the home she owns—the one she is receiving care in currently. We have put money towards repairs and other things, as well as paid for the majority of the groceries. I have heard of programs where the state will pay for caregiving but, unfortunately, we never went through anything formal like that.

However, she’s put off getting the will she wrote notarized this entire time and has now decided she will be selling the house to move and buy a new one several hours away. We aren’t really in a position to just pack up and go and we’ve sunk a lot into this arrangement. I have no idea how to navigate this situation and any pointers would help. I can also provide more details as necessary.
