My Ex (m34) Cheated On Me (f30) And Gave Me An Std. I Want To Sue Him So He Has To Pay My Medical Bills.
I was with my ex boyfriend for 4.5 years. I broke up with him about six months ago because I was having a difficult time trusting him. Two weeks later, he texted me while he was out drunk and told me I had chlamydia. I asked him if he was confessing he cheated on me, contracted chlamydia and gave it to me and he told me I must have cheated on him.
Of course, I immediately went and got tested. Unfortunately, the test confirmed he did in fact cheat on me and gave me chlamydia.
To some people, like him, this is a simple fix; you just take an antibiotic and carry on with your life (hopefully using protection and not cheating). But it’s not that simple for me. As he is well aware, I have a serious, chronic medical condition and antibiotics cause serious complications for me. I took the antibiotics and, as expected, it triggered a medical flare for me.
Since then, I have accumulated $19,311 in medical bills. I very quickly met my $4,000 deductible and am now at the 90/10 out of pocket ($6,000) phase.
I do have the savings to afford this, but I’m questioning if I should have to. While I am not perfect, I did the best I could in that relationship. I remained faithful to him and, when I realized I couldn’t trust him anymore, I ended it. Unfortunately, I clearly didn’t end it fast enough, but it adds an entire other layer to the pain of being cheated on when you’re now in immense medical debt because of what they did to you.
Not only did he not care about my feelings, by not using protection, he proved he also didn’t care he would make me sick and that my body wouldn’t be able to cope with what he put me through.
Do I have a case to sue him for my medical bills?
