My Ex-employer Wants To Sue Me
Hi everyone, I used to work for a tech company until about 12–15 days ago. I resigned because a previous employer offered me the chance to return in a better position (though not better pay). I told my current company that I decided to accept that offer, and they chose to treat that notice as my last day, so I didn’t complete a full two-week notice.
Yesterday, I received a letter from their lawyer stating that I had signed a non-compete and a non-disclosure agreement, and that they want to prevent me from working for that competitor. Would that actually hold up in court? I’m in a situation where hiring a lawyer is extremely difficult. I have a lot of medical bills due to the stress I experienced at my previous job (which is the main reason I left, even after taking a $10k pay cut).
I don’t have any company information saved. I didn’t take anything with me, and I even did a factory reset on the computer before returning it. This job market is tough, and I have two small kids plus my retired parents depending on me. I know I should have reviewed my contract or handbook before accepting the other offer, but I was desperate. Any advice would help.
