Moving Company Employee Stole Our Stuff And Police Can't Get It Back.

My wife and I hired a moving company to help us move the contents of our entire house in SC to CO. The moving company is operated out of GA but owned in NJ. The company had reputable reviews and is bonded and insured and has been [seemingly] operating without issue for 20+ years.
So the people come to pick up our stuff in SC and they say they have to have it transfer it to a larger truck in GA. Allegedly what happened was the employee/manager in charge of arranging the truck transfers went rogue and was sub contracting deals under the table to pocket money for himself (or to what we understand what happened) and got caught. In the process all of our stuff, and 10 other people's, got locked away in some storage units in rural GA under the name of the rogue employee. The stuff got put into these units when it was supposed to be transferred to a bigger truck to combine the loads. This employee has now gone awol and the owner of the company cant find him but was able to find the storage units containing everyone's [now stolen] stuff.
Problem is, he can't legally access the stuff because it is under "ownership" of the awol employee according to the storage company and they can't allow the lock to be cut without a warrant. The business owner is trying to pass all the responsibility onto us victims to work with the police. This is problematic because we are all over the country (we specifically in CO) so we can't go to GA face to face and deal with the cops. A police report has been filed and the detective is "working on it" but hasnt been very responsive. Meanwhile we sit in an empty house with basically nothing to our names but a few change of clothes while we wait for their response. The owner of the moving company says he will arrange our stuff to be shipped to us as soon as police release it, but that could take weeks to get the warrant according to the detective we spoke with. He said they're still trying to determine if this is a theft by conversion ordeal and if the stolen needs to be itemized for evidence and we may need to come to GA to identify what is ours since it is all mixed with the other 10 people's (yay, more travel expenses and stress of making sure someone else didnt claim our stuff first). They even have all of our passports, birth certificates, etc so we cant even do any administrative stuff in the mean time (yes i know we shouldnt have sent that with the movers but it was locked in a safe and hindsight is 20-20 and we had a seamless move the last 2 times).
We already contacted our home insurance and they say for now to work with the police and it is most likely going to be a civil matter. So what should our next steps be other than sit on the floor of our empty house and wait for the police to call us back? Is there a way to rush this along (we are patient but its literally everything we own being held hostage on the other side of the country when we have new jobs and our business stuff to start soon)? We've already paid $6,000 of the $11,000 total for the move. Theres no way I want to pay the rest from us after this, is there any legal justification in us getting the other $6,000 back as well, even if they DO deliver our stuff a month from now? Do we need to contact a civil lawyer of some kind for this if we get push back from the moving company owner that we still owe money? We aren't ones to try to milk lawsuits for cash but there is a lot of items that cant be replaced and sentimental stuff that i dont know how we would even valuate if it doesnt make it back to us; not to mention all the mental strain and angush this is taking.
Thanks for any tips!
