I’m in the process of applying for Mexican citizenship through my mom, and I have a question about her documents and how they might affect my case.

Here’s the situation: • My grandpa was born in Mexico, and my mom has both Mexican and U.S. birth certificates. • She was actually born in the U.S. — her American birth certificate says that and lists where her parents were born (Mexico). • But when she was little, her family also registered her birth in Mexico, so she has a Mexican birth certificate that says she was born in Mexico (even though she wasn’t). • She has a CURP and a Mexican birth certificate

I was also born in Illinois, but my U.S. birth certificate only lists my mom’s residence at the time of birth (like address) — it doesn’t show her place of birth.

Now that I’m preparing to register my birth to obtain Mexican citizenship, I’m wondering: • Will it be a problem that my mom’s Mexican birth certificate lists her as born in Mexico, while her U.S. birth certificate says Illinois? • Should I try to clarify or correct this before starting the process, or will it usually be fine since she already has a valid Mexican birth certificate and CURP?

She’s trying to get her own passport too, and is worried it can mess things up.
