Loan Company Harassing Me Over Sister’s Old Debts

7 years ago, my sister and I were in college. Unknown to me, my mom and sister committed FAFSA fraud and wrongfully received $11,000 in loans (co-signed by my mom) and aid. When the fraud was discovered, my sister was expelled.

The fallout culminated in my sister breaking into my home in a rage, at my mom’s urging, because she felt it was my fault. I was granted a restraining order and cut contact with both of them.

Now, 7 years later, a loan company I have never used is calling me and home and work, and mailing me things about unpaid loans in collections.

After some digging, it turns out these are my mom and sister’s loans. They never paid a penny. When the loans went to collections, they put my info as the primary contact- though the loans are not in my name- and disappeared.

I contacted the loan company and said that this is not my debt, I won’t pay it, I have no connection to these people, and please remove me as the contact and stop calling me.

The loan company said that only the account holder can remove me as the contact, and I need to talk to my sister or mom and get them to do it. Otherwise I will stay as the contact and they cannot guarantee I will not continue to be contacted, since the loans must be paid. For practical and safety reasons, I can’t contact my mom or sister.

I’m not interested in what’s fair or how things should be. I know it’s tough titties. I just really need the loan company to stop contacting me. Why are they doing this now? How do I get them to leave me alone? Thanks in advance.
