Is Landlord Responsible For Cricket Infestation?

My landlord is saying it’s not his responsibility. After renting my house in California we realized there are a lot of crickets around the house. Recently they keep getting into one section of the wall in the kitchen and make noise all night. It’s really unbearable after the first few minutes and it gets loud.

His response was “what do you want me to do come remove a cricket from the wall”

Do I have any recourse? I just signed a lease and I’m stuck for 12 months.
